Country Artists That Mainstream Ignores
As well as to Alison Krauss,  I also extend good luck in their bid for a Grammy, to Patty Loveless, Randy Travis, Kathy Mattea, Ricky Skaggs, Rodney Crowell, and Emmylou Harris. In my opinion, these artists had some of the most beautiful music produced this year, and are well deserving of their nominations. Thanks for respecting the roots of the genre,  and understanding that there are still those of us out there, who admire and appreciate the style of  music you bring us.

As far as last night performances go, I paid the most attention to the legends that performed. Even though I'm not a fan, I'll give credit to what I did enjoy, and thought Kenny Chesney actually had the best 'Country' performance of the night. I never thought I'd say something like that! LOL

My intent with this thread was not for people to complain about what they don't like, but rather to show those who do complain, that there is still Country legends out there making great Country music, and are actually still getting honors for doing it. Kathy Mattea's "Coal" was my favorite album of the year, and Randy Crowell's "Sex and Gasoline" wasn't very far behind. Unfortunaltely for Crowell, he was against Plant and Alison, and Kathy was in a category where 89 year old Pete Seeger got the sentimental vote. I didn't get a chance to hear any of his, so I really don't know how good it was.

Just curious, but those of you who are blaming Underwood for others getting ignored, did you bother to seek out the work of the artists that were mentioned at the start of this thread?

Hey, jerm, Alison won tons of grammys last night. Music people in general know what's good. Carrie won her third female vocal award in a row. I believe they're both really great singers. Alison just happens to record music that fits a very small demographic, me included, that like music with alot of class. Carrie happens to make music with alot of power and that's radio friendly. They both are great artists nonetheless. I'm happy for both of them. They both have a place in country music.
Yea, Carrie gets alot of radioplay, but come on, look at the songs she's recorded. All of them have reached number one, and worthy of that position. JTTW, BHC, Just a dream, Wasted are all examples of great songs. Alison doesn't get alot of radioplay in maintream stations, but her music is more towards the adult side and recorded with less production. Her themes are more adult oriented and that's what she likes and that's ok. I've seen her three times live now and I've enjoyed each of them. I've seen Carrie three times also and have enjoyed all of those time also. Two different artists, the same enjoyment. It's all good.
