Ain't That Lonely Yet
This is one of my favorite Dwight Yoakam songs.  I found out that this is one song that Dwight himself did not write.  It was written or co-written by another artist, James House.  From what I recall reading was that Dwight heard the song and asked to record it.  James House wanted to keep this song for himself and record it, but Dwight  persistence won out and House allowed him to record it.  I am guessing that James House was pretty glad he did....Dwight won a Grammy for the song.  I thought I would post both Dwight's and James' version so you can see them.  Now this is not to compare which of the two is better.....it is more just to show the contrast.  BTW, if you have time look up some of James' work....he can be found on that Space site and also on that video site we all like to visit.  Okay I can't insert the video or it won't let me, so I will put them under the video sections.  &#16...

    I just love the lyrics to Ain't That Lonely Yet. Didn't know that it was written by James House. Thanks for the info.

    I used to listen to the Blasters every Sunday afternoon because my co-worker because a co-worker used to play it when it was just him and I at the office and I didn't care what music was playing. I enjoyed listening. Dave Alvin wrote the lyrics to Long White Cadillac. He is Phil's brother and used to play with the Blasters. I went to his all acoustic performance in Seattle several months ago. It was wonderful. He sang mostly blues and folk music.

    Brenda, I like the Blasters "Long White Cadillac" ....Sandy, I think Dwight does it sexier(LOL)...but I do like both.

    Okay ya'll asked for it. I posted it. The Blasters originally did LWC, and Dwight used to hang with them and I guess that's how he heard it. My favorite Blasters version that I can find on YT is from a live festival show in Finland in 1987. Check out their "punk" version and compare it to Dwight's cool, sexy "country" one. I think Dwight's a genius for changing it so much, yet retaining its essence and what is great about the song - - even improving it perhaps.

    Patty thanks for posting it is a great song and James does a good job singing it too I did know that Dwight didn't write it. Brenda go for it and post the videos would love to see them.

    I say do it, Brenda. I love to see how Dwight takes a song and puts his spin on it. I look forward to seeing it.

    I founnd James by accident on that Space site and read he wrote DY's song Ain;t That Lonely Yet.....well I just had to find out more about him. Apparently he also wrote another favorite song of mine that Matina McBride does....'A Broken Wing'. He is a talented songwriter, had some problems, but is trying to make a comeback now. From what I can tell he came out around the time Dwight did and has a few albums under his belt and just put out a new cd in the last year and working on another one. I got the cd and it is truly amazing.....love the lyrics of his songs.

    Thanks, Patty. I had never heard James House sing this beautiful gem of a song. It's lovely both the way he and Dwight do it. BTW, I have been toying with the idea of putting up a video link to the Blasters "Long White Cadillac" to compare with Dwight's version, but that might be going too far on this site. What do you think? They are both great, but very different. I'll have to think about it some more.
