The Elk River Boys & Girls Club was presented with 15 tickets to the recent Taylor Swift concert.
The idea behind the gift from Best Buy was much more than just a night of fun for girls as young as 8 and as old as 18.
It was part of the club’s SMART Girls program aimed at helping girls develop healthy attitudes and lifestyles as well as acquire and maintain a positive self-concept, sound decision-making skills and mentor relationships.
Swift has made a name for herself through her singing and the way she has carried herself as a positive role model for young girls.
For girls age 8 to 18, making a positive transition to their teenage years and into adulthood depends upon several factors, according to a press release.
They include:
•self-esteem and self-confidence
•attitudes about their bodies
•developing practical life skills
•opportunities to contribute to their communities
•influence of positive female mentors/role models in their lives, someone who can offer guidance and help, especially in the areas of social and health-related behaviors, a news release stated.
Swift’s “Fearless” concert took place on Oct. 11. The tickets were provided by Best Buy and @15, an Official Charity Partner for the “Fearless” tour.
