I love your review and can't wait to see the pictures! So happy you went and could see our cowboy. I wish I was closer to that area. It's famous for its music scene. I think you're finding new fans of Dwight in your family (lol)

LOL, Dwight almost every month indeed! He does skip around and pops up all over the place unexpectedly. I just bought tics for the Big Fresno Fair in CA in Oct. Got my Dad and stepmom almost convinced to join us from Ventura, and to see some national parks, too. Dwight is a national treasure, so why not combine him with others like Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon? And back to TX, if anybody wants some good restaurant references in Austin, I can oblige. I ate my way through that city this weekend, ha, ha. We even took dance lessons and danced at the Broken Spoke while Dale played on! Why do I have to go back to work today? Got to pay to play as they say.

Brenda, thank you for the eyewitness report. Wow! A concert in June and one in July. Don't you wish that you could go to a concert every month? I am starting to see that Dwight is sort of a pied piper.

Howdy ya'll!! Arrived home yesterday after a whirlwind long weekend in what's becoming my favorite vacation spot - - Texas!! Why, you ask? The incredible music scene there!! What took me from Virginia to Texas this time? The chance to see two music legends, Dwight Yoakam and Dale Watson within the span of 3 days. You cannot do any better than that IMHO!!

This is Dwight's board so I'll start with a review of his AWESOME show at "Whitewater on the Horseshoe." First of all, what a beautiful venue. It's located near Canyon Lake, close to New Braunfels, about 10 miles outside San Antonio. It's an outdoor venue next to a river with a huge standing area in front of the stage, tiki torches in barrels for evening lighting, horseshoe pits, a place to play darts, etc.

My husband and I arrived at about 5:30 p.m. on Thurs., 7/9, and planted ourselves at the foot of the stage with about 10 other early Dwight-fanatic arrivals, mostly members of the Rt. 23 fan club. There was a small amount of shade in front of the stage at that time, but otherwise the sun was beating down at about 103 degrees F!!!! I also had a cold and had gotten up at 3 a.m. for an early flight from VA so I was pretty weak and tired. Sat and stood through the opening 3 bands which included one of my husband's favorites, "Two Tons of Steel," who hail from San Antonio. The TTS singer has his Elvis moves down, ladies! They were quite good, as were the other bands.

Dwight came on around 9:15, and by then the crowd had grown to an estimated 5,000 strong. I couldn't believe how many people were packing the place! I was so happy for Dwight and his Babylonian Cowboys!! People sure do love him in Texas and it was a joyous sight to see!! There was a lot of jockeying and maneuvering in front of the stage by people seeking to find the perfect spot to stand for the show. We were really packed in there!

Dwight did almost the same hit-filled set as in Wheeling, WV, in June, except he added a few songs I'd never seen him play. He included "The Back of Your Hand," "Carmelita," What Do You Know About Love," and "I Got You." Plus he presented his long-time assistant, "Punkin," with a birthday cake and sang happy birthday to him. It was a sweet moment to behold. Otherwise, even though Dwight and the guys were probably suffering from the hot temperature, they made it look easy to put on a HOT SHOW!! There were a few feedback issues and Dwight broke a string during a song, but these barely made an impression on me. Not only did Dwight handle them with ease, I was in a state of awe watching the magic being made on stage.

I thought this show might have exceeded Wheeling, which I thought was absolutely wonderful, so kudos to Dwight! He sang great, joked and smiled, but didn't do as many of his signature moves, probably because it was so hot out. I didn't care, I was only 3 rows away from Dwight!! He did enough dancing and teasing to keep it interesting and sang one fantastic song after another. Eddie, Josh, Mitch and Jonathan (Clark) had upbeat attitudes and they had nice interactions with Dwight and the crowd. Eddie, in particular, is a ham - - making faces, smiling and doing his rock star moves. So cute!!

I felt like I was in heaven all night it was so perfect. The crowd response was very postitive - - lots of cheering and clapping. Security even ejected a few rowdy people. The show ended up with a ton of energy with Guitars, Cadillacs / Fast as You, They Say This Drinkin' Will Kill Me, Since I Started Drinkin' Again and Long White Cadillac. All in all seeing Dwight again was well worth the pain of traveling on little sleep and food while sick. I would do it over again without any hesitation. Will share my pictures here soon. You'll see that Dwight's pants were a little looser than usual, which means they were still skin tight, LOL! Oh, what a night to remember forevah!! Wish you all had been there with me....
