Gone solo
Since the Farewell Tour, 2 members have gone solo. Jeff Cook being one. Randy Owen being the other. Randy has come out with his FIRST solo CD titled "One on One". He has also written a book called Born Country. I got to meet Jeff Cook when he came to Biloxi, MS April 2008. Super nice person.

What would be great is if Alabama did a reunion thing. That would be awesome. But like threadsense said, we just have to make do.

Wow,, Look at what I found. While traveling South this weekend to visit with friends in the lower part of this state, I was showed this article on Jeff Cook. Looks like he is starting to get more news press. It's a pretty good read.

Alabama's Jeff Cook is back with own version of "country, soul and rock n' roll"

    February 26, 2009

After retiring from the road in 2004, country supergroup Alabama left millions of fans salivating for more of the down-home country music they had been devouring for three decades.

Now, five years later, Alabama lead guitarist, fiddle player and founding member Jeff Cook has cranked up his Allstar Goodtime Band (AGB) to bring fans that familiar Alabama sound as well as something new.

Cook and the AGB will release "Ashes Won't Burn" and will be available for download on i-Tunes beginning March 17. The new album, releasing on Quest Records, isn't genre specific but rather "country, soul and rock n' roll," as Cook calls it.

"This new record will please rock, blues and soul fans alike... we had a lot of fun making it... we call it ‘Funtry' music. Country music fans can expect to hear those familiar guitar and fiddle licks from the past," Cook said.

"Ashes Won't Burn" will showcase previously released re-recorded cuts from Cook's days with Alabama, new cuts co-written by Cook, as well as tried-and-true classics including "Brickhouse," "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and "All Right Now."

Cook's Allstar Goodtime Band is a nine-piece group (including Cook) complete with a three-piece horn section and percussion. Prior to forming the band, Cook methodically handpicked all eight band members based on stage chemistry ... a difficult task when considering the large number of musicians he has collaborated with throughout the years.

In 2001, Cook was named "Guitarist of the Year" by the Gibson Guitar Company.
Now with the Allstar Goodtime Band and a rejuvenated enthusiasm for performing, Cook is back on stage ... singing three decades of Alabama hits plus his very own brand of "country, soul and rock n' roll."

I have been to only 1 Alabama concert and that was the Farewell Tour. I love their music, too. Working on getting the rest of my collection restored. Alabama has a unique sound that you know its them before the first word is sung. That's what makes them so great. I am proud to call myself a huge fan of theirs.
I hate negativity from people on my favorite artists too. Been through that already with one of my favorites. The way I see it, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you don't like someone, don't run them down. Because there are 100 fans that will stand by their favorites. Some tried to run down one of my favorite-Sebastian Bach. Yes, he may be rock, but he has come out with an awesome Country song. I am a true country fan, but I make Sebastian an exception. He also has a good voice. I'm not going to run down another artist. I may not like them, but you won't here negativity from me on them.

I have never been to the state of alabama and have never seen them in concert.I just love there music.I just get mad to hear negativety about people. This site is about the music not there personal life we should leave them alone. They deserve our respect.I get mad at people running down Taylor swift I don't like her music because she is young but I'm not going to get on here and run her down.People just don't respect each other no more.

They did and still do have a very unique sound. They will always be my favorite. I wonder if the group still jams together even though Randy and Jeff have gone Solo? Would like to see them in a reunion tour one day, too. It would be sold out all over the country.

I'm a huge Alabama fan. Always have been. I'm on a couple of message boards and I do post as often as I can. I noticed the other day, when I discovered that Randy had come out with a book and his first solo CD that the Alabama site is still up and going. That's how I found the link to Randy's site. And as Randy said in his book, he just wants us, the fans, to see a different side of Alabama and its members.
I would like to see just how the solo thing will come to be for both Randy and Jeff. Who knows, maybe Teddy will produce one of their albums one day.

Randy's book and CD are great. I thought it was well done. As far as having to pay to be part of Randy's Fan Club? I doesn't bother me one bit. Websites are very costly. I belong to several fan clubs and all of them you have to pay. I just logged on to Jeff's so call fan club site. With over 17 thousand so called fans, he only has 19 daily active members posting there and 17 other members who post only sometimes. Thats really pretty sad if you ask me. What happen to all those members? What did they stop posting? And please don't tell me it was because the Farewell tour is over. There were alot of members still posting and being friends long after the tour ended. Could it be all the negative postings about Randy? Could it be all the clicky clicks of people? There is truth out there you know!! And it isn't always on Jeff's site.

So older men singing this kind of music is dirty old men and older women are divas. When a women like dolly parson that is ok but a man isn,t.The songs is about passion.Because you are older you are not suppose to have it no more.

I think that Randy's first solo CD is good. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I also have Jeff's CD. Both members, in my opinion are good. Somehow though, I still listen for some piece of the Alabama sound in each of the solo CD's.
I also miss Alabama touring.I only got to see 1 Alabama concert and that was when the Farewell Tour came to Biloxi, MS. It would be awesome if Alabama did a reunion tour one day.
Randy also wrote a book about Alabama. More on his story. So far, its a good book. Maybe one day each of the band members could write a book on their story of Alabama and themselves. Pretty much what Randy did.
I try to collect everything on every singer/band that I like. Alabama though is one of my all time favorites. Always has been and always will be. No matter what they do.

The person who said randy's songs sound like a dirty old man singing songs must be young I am in my 50's and if I wanted to head young men singing sexy songs it would make me a dirty old lady.Does it mean that when you get older you are no longer sexy. Passion does not go away when you get old if it does I feel sorry for the person. Music is not just for young people.

I bought Jeff's CD when he was in concert here in Biloxi, MS last April. He is really cool. He met his fans before and after the concerts. I got pics with him. He really is a super nice guy. I hope Randy does the same. It would be nice for him to tour to promote his new CD. I happen to find it in Walmart. To find out more on Randy, go to this link. http://www.randyowen.com/

I thought Randy's CD was just great. Not everyone can be Jeff, but at least Randy's CD was released to the whole USA not just his fan club groupies.
