Gretchen and SONY part ways
According to a news article on this site, SONY and Gretchen have mutually decided to part ways. I wonder who owns the masters to the new album? Will Gretchen be able to release it independently? :(

well, many here in IL where she says she grew up are all cracking up and saying "if she's going to fall, it might as well be face first like it always was". It would seem the "redneck" support she once had has flown the coop and she's all be herself trying to figure out what to do.

funny....there were a few people on here a while back that called it pretty close.

gee pokerpoppy....where oh where are you tonight?!?!?!????????

If I were Gretchen I would start my own label & rerecord the exact same album as she did on Sony/BMG/RLG, whatever that garbage is called, & I would tell Joe Galante of RCA label group to go to hell & continue with his 2 talentless blonde bimbos, Carrie-miss american idol & that supertrash, Kellie. Absolutely talentless blonde garbage. And I hope that gretchen also does her own videos & will promote them to CMT for airplay. I would not let some trashy record label tell me that I cant take my music to a new label because I would tell them it is MY music, esp. the songs that I wrote & recorded. Long live Gretchen Wilson.

According to press reports Gretchen is forming her own label, Redneck Records. She will release her new album, I Got Your Country Right Here, on that label.

I hope she took the rights to the album with her. She's talked so much about how the music is more of her, that I'd just like to hear it. I hope she finds a good business model for the release of new music and booking dates. Unfortunately, I doubt she'll get much radio play. That doesn't mean she won't be heard, though!

The label owns the music while she was under them and like Toby keith before he got his own label will have to buy them from the label if she wants that music for her to release as an independent. Most artist if they decide to release their own music will just do all new songs on their own and pay for the project out of their own pocket. I think also that there may be a chance that with the muzik mafia connection could get on a label with Big & Rich.
