Kellie Pickler put her country girl sensibilities to use recently when she pitched in to help build a house for the Terpenning family on the hit ABC show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Actually, she says demolishing the old house was her favorite part. “It was the only chance I’ve ever had to walk into a house with a sledge hammer and bust holes in walls,” Pickler says. “I busted a toilet and water went shooting everywhere. Kellie Pickler put her country girl sensibilities to use recently when she pitched in to help build a house for the Terpenning family on the hit ABC show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

Actually, she says demolishing the old house was her favorite part.

“It was the only chance I’ve ever had to walk into a house with a sledge hammer and bust holes in walls,” Pickler says. “I busted a toilet and water went shooting everywhere. Thank the Lord that was the only thing that flew out.”

That was not, however, the first time the country singer had swung a hammer or was around construction work. Pickler was raised by her grandparents, and her grandpa was an electrician.

“I used to go on jobs with him,” she says. “I can actually wire a house. I started wiring when I was 5 years old. I would crawl under the house and run wires. I grew up in the country, so the women had to know how to fix things as much as the men.”

So she used the knowledge from her childhood on the television show, and gained a little bit more, too. “I learned how to build a house,” she says. “It was so amazing and really really fun.”

However the laughter turned to tears for Pickler during the unveiling when the family saw their new home for the first time.

“I was bawling like a baby,” she says. “I’m an emotional basket case anyway, but that was absolutely incredible. The show is all about giving back and helping people, and that is the most important thing in life. We’re supposed to embrace one another and love each other and take care of each other and really come together as one.”

Pickler’s episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will air 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, on WKRN Channel 2.

In addition, fans that would like to meet the “American Idol” alumni in person can do so 4–5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, when Pickler plans to sign copies of her current self-titled CD at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Kellie PicklerKellie Pickler appears on this Sunday's episode of ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,' and she says that it was "the most incredible show I've ever been a part of."

Kellie traveled to Beavercreek, Ohio to not only to surprise James Terpenning and his family with news that they're getting a new home, but also to assist in building that home and performing at the reveal at the end of the show. James, who was crippled by polio during infancy, is a computer specialist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and a wheelchair sports athlete, and according to Kellie, his friends and co-workers, a really nice guy. "I got to spend a little time with the father and the mother," Kellie tells The Boot. "They're just beautiful souls. After you talk to them and you get to really see who they are and what they're about, you become so much more attached to them and you just really want to make this home the best that it can be."

Kellie explains that her life was changed after taking part in the show and seeing more than 200 volunteers in the community help rebuild the Terpenning home, and how really fast the whole process was from start to finish. "I was totally blown away with how quickly everything happened from the house destruction day, which was my favorite part," she says. "I had a lot to let out on that house! It was very therapeutic for me at times."

This episode of 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' will air Sunday, Nov. 6 at 8:00 PM ET on ABC.

pwlsh, you are so right about the father, he is a very special man and everyone's hero. I am trying as I am typing this. It was such a special episode and I am so happy Kellie could be a part of it. Kellie's brother has been living with her since about June or so so she brings him to most of her shows and takes him other places too. For 23 years old she has a lot on her plate, not only her career and taking care of her brother too. Everyone that has met Eric say he is as sweet as Kellie. I am so happy Kellie could help this family out. They really deserved the new house and vacation to Disney too. I hope you have been doing all right. How was your daughter's wedding? My son's wedding was beautiful. Take Care of your self and your family too,:> :> :> :>

    Hi Travlin,

I watched the show and cried most all the way through. This really showed what a caring and wonderful young woman Kellie is. I loved her, and loved that she had her little brother with her.

Also, the father on the show was a remarkable man. He was/is a true hero.

U.S. country music singer Kellie Pickler said she enjoyed helping build a family a new house on the TV series "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

The 23-year-old singer said she used electrical wiring skills she learned from her grandfather as a child to help build the home as part of her recent guest spot on the ABC series, The (Nashville) Tennessean said Sunday.

"I can actually wire a house. I started wiring when I was 5 years old. I would crawl under the house and run wires," Pickler told the Tennessean. "I grew up in the country, so the women had to know how to fix things as much as the men."

Despite being able to use her skills on the "Makeover" episode, scheduled to air Sunday night, Pickler admitted demolishing the family's original home was her favorite part.

"It was the only chance I've ever had to walk into a house with a sledge hammer and bust holes in walls," the "I Wonder" singer said.

The Tennessean said Pickler also admitted she cried when the family was presented with the new home.

"I was bawling like a baby," she told the Tennessean "I'm an emotional basket case anyway, but that was absolutely incredible."

"EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" HELPS A PARALYMPICS GOLD MEDALIST WHOSE COMPASSION FOR OTHERS ALSO SOARS TO OLYMPIAN HEIGHTS

Country Star Kellie Pickler Volunteers for "Get on the Bus" Campaign and Debuts New Song at the Reveal

"Terpenning family -- "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and celebrity volunteer Kellie Pickler travel to Beavercreek, Ohio, to tell James Terpenning, a wheelchair sports champion and mentor to disabled Iraqi War veterans, that he and his family will have a newly rebuilt home in seven days. James, a computer specialist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, is known at work and in the community as an inspirational role model who always helps others but never asks for help himself. This episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will air SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on ABC.

Country music sensation Kellie Pickler will be the celebrity volunteer for this build and will perform her new song at the family's reveal. The design team for this episode will feature team leader Ty Pennington and designers Michael Moloney, Ed Sanders and Didiayer Snyder.

Crippled by polio during infancy and abandoned by his American G.I. father in Vietnam, James nevertheless considers himself one of the luckiest people in the world. He was supposed to be airlifted out of Vietnam on a military plane that crashed, killing all the children and aid workers aboard. Instead, he had safe passage, leading to a new life in America as an adopted son in an Ohio family. While growing up, James competed in wheelchair sports and later represented the U.S. at the Paralympics, where he earned both gold and silver medals. He continues to serve his country in civilian technical support for the Air Force and by helping disabled veterans. James also is a frequent speaker at schools, educating children and teens about living with special challenges.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It is executive-produced by Anthony Dominici. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America. The series is broadcast with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. This program carries a TV-PG parental guideline.

Kellie Pickler is no longer a blonde, but she's still a bombshell, nonetheless. The 'Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You' singer is now a redhead. Actually, auburn would be a more appropriate term to describe the new shade of her shoulder length tresses. Kellie gave her fans a head's up a few weeks ago via her Twitter page, stating "Incognito with my red hair. On Broadway in Nashville." And her fans have certainly responded ... some of them not so fondly.

"It's just hair! Some people don't even have hair," Kellie laments to The Boot. "So, while I have my hair, I'm going to play with it and experiment with it. When you get people that are just like, 'Oh my gosh, you're so much better as a blonde,' it's like where are your priorities?"

Kellie, who is a self-professed "beauty school drop-out," says she thought it would be fun to try something different. In fact, the former 'American Idol' contestant explains she's fascinated with hair and all that goes with it, but she probably wouldn't have made a career out of doing other people's hair. "I'm not very good at it, but hence, that's why I never finished [Cosmetology School]." The North Carolina native is happy with her new locks and says she'll "probably go back [to being] blonde sooner or later."

We couldn't find a photo of Kellie with her new auburn do, but if you want to catch a glimpse of the songbird with her new locks, she will be a presenter at the CMA Awards on Nov. 11. She's set to hand over the trophy for Song of the Year.

With a personality as infectious as her hits, Kellie Pickler has made a name for herself far beyond 'American Idol.' After The Boot sat down with the bubbly beauty to talk about her new album, we let the conversation stray to rumors and romance.
