You are very correct, as far as I'm concerned, country music hasn't been country music since the early 2000's. Veteran artists had to work to earn their awards, everyone had a fair chance at radio, you heard true variety, including the veterans we had come to know and love as well as great new artists. Then 2005/2006 came around and radio plays nothing but two new female artists who took all the attention away from the others, and the veterans in country music basically get ignored and can't even win awards for these new brats that have come along. I don't even listen to the radio anymore or pay any attention to the award shows. I have several cd's in my car that I listen to quite often that I made myself. Those are Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Sara Evans, and Lady Antebellum (the best new act to come along in a long time, yet they don't get near as much attention as Carrie and Taylor despite being much more talented).

Ah, the good ole days! Back before an American Idol contest winner had to come along and steal awards from all the deserving ones.

We DO, cherokee! We elevate them to great heights, but someone's always looking to take them down. That is really mind-blowing.

Many people work so hard to make something GOOD, and succeed. And when they get the acclaim, they're targets.

Aside from the DC-we in America spend alot of time making someone "famous" and then spend a great deal of time trying to take them down-whether it be music, sports, film, politics, etc.

I've gotten flak about complimenting Taylor Swift, who's winning every award in country, but making quite a splash OUTSIDE of country music. She's getting raves from all over, and probably being overexposed - which causes some backlash.

Now, how many of you fans feel that the Chicks' early, huge success with their first 3 cds made them overexposed, and get backlash from that?

I'm sad to say it, but human nature seems ready to punish those who are "riding high" with success or fame.

I think few of your saw it last year, but during the "after Academy Awards" show on E, Natalie was on the red carpet, heading out to parties - at Elton John's house, among others. She said she'd packed her husband and sons off to ski, and was enjoying the past few days of pampering and the events of the Oscars.

The Chicks' night at the Grammys were sweet beyond comparison. Especially since they garnered more awards, and had the overwhelming support of everyone, AND got to go home loaded with Grammys.

Great stuff, especially, because their soulful cd, TTLW, was born of some unnecessary trials and grief. (But what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, eh?)

Sweeter is the fact that the Grammy's were voted for by their peers.

I remember that night like it was last night. Still very vivid and fresh in my memory. They deserved the recognition for that great album.
