What song is this?
Hi y'all - This oughta be easy for a roomful of Jones' biggest fans. Can you name the song in which George encounters a dying hobo, who's crying for his mother? I've only heard the song one time at an Opry, and the singer told me it was a George Jones tune. Can you name it? It would be a big help to me.   Thanks!

I'll try posting this again. I FOUND THE SONG!! It's called "Mama Take Me Home", featured on the cds "Blue Side Of Lonesome" and "First In The Hearts Of Country". If you will Google this: George Jones Mama Take Me Home - you'll find the song lyrics, and even a link to the song itself, featured on youtube. You can hear it for free. Thank you, Jones fans, for trying to help me with this. I appreciate it! And be sure and give that song a listen. It is AWESOME.

    Is this it?

    Wino The Clown Lyrics
    Artist(Band):George Jones
    WINO THE CLOWN
WRITERS RON HELLARD, CURLY PUTMAN, BUCKY JONES

    Chorus:
He's got a funny red nose, old baggy pants
When he staggers down the street it's a funny little dance
Children gather 'round as he falls down
Everybody laughs at wino the clown.

They just don't know the reason why
But when she died, he died inside
He lost all his will to live
And he had no use for pride.
Not even all his children's love
    Could bring him back again
He just crawled into a bottle
Now he's waiting for the end.

    Chorus:
He's got a funny red nose, old baggy pants
When he staggers down the street it's a funny little dance
Children gather 'round as he falls down
Everybody laughs at wino the clown.

They laugh when he comes down the street.
    Stumbles all alone.
At they way he smiles and holds his arm
Just as if someone's holding on.
They all think he's lost his mind
    talking to thin air
Ah, but only me and my daddy knows
    That mama's walking there.

    Chorus:
He's got a funny red nose, old baggy pants,
When he staggers down the street it's a funny little dance
Children gather 'round when he falls down
Everybody laughs at wino the clown.

But I never laugh when my daddy falls down
I'll always love wino the clown...

Hi tag65, sorry it took me so long to get back here. I finally found one of my good friends who thought it might be this song you are referring to, 'WINO THE CLOWN' He also sent me a video that I will down load it for you. If this is not it let me know and I will keep asking around. You have piqued my interest (LOL)

Hi tag65. I first thought it was Hobo Bills's Last Ride, but that's a Merle Haggard song unless George sang it at one point in his career. I don't think this is the song you are reffering to, but some of the lyrics goes like this:

No one knew that Hobo Bill was taking his last ride
It was early in the morning when they raised the hobo's head
The smile still lingered on his face but Hobo Bill was dead
There was no mother's longing to soothe his weary soul
For he was just a railroad bum who died out in the cold

I'll ask around and see if anyone knows the song.
